It’s the season of spring breaks and summer travel planning, and many of us have vacationing on our minds. But if you’re looking for a vacation spot you can return to year after year, how about a vacation home with the amenities of a luxe mountain lodge? You’ll find it in this $33,500,000 ranch in Hesperus, Colo., just outside Durango. The area is a popular vacation spot for Texans.
The ranch offers 175 acres with a 12,000-square-foot main house, a three-bedroom caretaker house, two barns and its own campground.
Listing agent Eric Roark said the area is a popular destination for North Texas buyers looking to purchase second homes, especially because it’s less populated than other Colorado vacation spots.
“The allure is to get out of the congestion,” Roark said.
He noted that the climate is more temperate than other Colorado locations, and there are direct flights from DFW International Airport.
Wildflower Ranch, named after the burst of wildflowers on the property in the springtime, borders the San Juan National Forest. The La Plata River runs through the acreage, and Roark said you can see five mountain peaks from the property.
“It is truly a four-season resort,” Roark said.

The main house was built in 2010 and offers luxury amenities like a media room, a library, a chef’s kitchen, a fitness center, a game room and an indoor, lap-resistance pool. The main house has four levels and an elevator. The first level of the home includes the home theater that has 12 seats and a snack bar with a refrigerator and a sink, a soundproof media room, a half-bathroom and storage space.
Most of the living spaces are on the second level of the home, including the great room with its 22-foot aspen wood ceilings, the dining room, the kitchen and the library. The primary suite is also located on this level, and it has a fireplace in the bedroom, an en suite bathroom and a bonus room.
The remaining three bedrooms are on the third floor of the home along with the game room. There is a bonus room on the fourth floor that has views of the property.
The 175 acres of land provide a variety of opportunities for outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, hunting and snowmobiling. A campground on the property has a pavilion with a commercial kitchen, a bath house and a two-car garage.
The ranch at 3456 County Road 124 in Hesperus is listed for $33,500,000 by Eric and Constance Roark of the Wells Group of Durango.
