A warming center will open at Patrick Heath Public Library.

As the much anticipated arctic blast barreled toward Boerne, the city on Wednesday said it would open a warming center at the Patrick Heath Public Library.
The community room at the library will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, the city said. The room will stay open as a warming center even if the library is not fully open.
Until the weather improves, all publicly maintained restrooms will be locked and water disconnected, the city said.
There will not be any trash pickup or recycling on Thursday. Collections will resume Friday and into the weekend as needed.
Boerne facilities will not open until noon Thursday, but essential personnel still will report to work.
Residents who experience a utility outage can report it by calling 830-249-9511 during business hours or 830-248-1633 at any other time.
Nonessential Hays County offices will be closed. The county is urging residents to be prepared for “multiple days” of extreme cold temperature mixed with rain.
County officials will determine which essential services will continue operating during Thursday’s closure and will “reevaluate the situation as the winter storm unfolds” and make a decision about Friday operations by 3 p.m. Thursday.
All San Marcos nonessential facilities and nonessential functions have been suspended until Monday.
Comal County offices will be closed. Residents are urged to stay home and avoid driving if not necessary.
Comal commissioners court also has been canceled for Thursday.
