The Suns have five players on their roster standing 6-foot-10 or taller, and four of them will be out for Tuesday’s game vs. New Orleans at 8 p.m. ET. That essentially forces second-year man Jalen Smith into the rotation as the tallest player left on the active roster and he hasn’t disappointed recently. Over his last four games, Smith is averaging 16 points, 10.5 boards and 1.3 blocks while shooting 56 percent from the field. With that kind of production coming at a discounted value on sites like FanDuel and DraftKings, Smith is looking highly appealing for NBA DFS lineups.
Smith is also a great pick-and-roll screener for both Chris Paul and Devin Booker which endears him to the Suns’ stars and earns him more playing time. So is forming an NBA DFS stack with Smith and either Paul or Booker something you should pursue on Tuesday? Before making your NBA DFS picks for Tuesday, be sure to check out the NBA DFS advice, player rankings, stacks and top daily Fantasy basketball picks from SportsLine’s Mike McClure.

On Monday, McClure included Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley as one of his top NBA DFS picks on both DraftKings and FanDuel. The result: Beverley posted 11 points, a career-high of 12 assists, three rebounds and two steals, returning 37.75 points on DraftKings and 37.6 points on FanDuel. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.
Now, McClure has turned his attention to the Tuesday, January 4 NBA DFS slate and locked in his top daily Fantasy basketball picks. You can only see them by heading to SportsLine.
Top NBA DFS picks for Tuesday, January 4
One of McClure’s top Tuesday NBA DFS picks is Lakers forward LeBron James ($11,400 on both DraftKings and FanDuel). The now-37-year-old continues to defy Father Time as James is averaging 28.5 points per game which trails only Kevin Durant. The points average is his highest in 12 years since James put up 29.7 PPG in the last year of his first stint in Cleveland in 2009-10.
The Lakers host the Kings on Tuesday and James had a typical All-NBA performance the last time he saw Sacramento in late November. James played a season-high of 49 minutes and put up 30 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds. That was one of his NBA-leading 15 games with at least 30 points this season, despite him missing nearly one-third of the year due to various reasons. James has been more assertive in looking for his shot with Anthony Davis sidelined and daily Fantasy players will reap the benefits of having him in their lineups for Tuesday.
Another part of McClure’s optimal NBA DFS strategy includes rostering Spurs forward Devin Vassell ($4,400 on DraftKings and $4,800 on FanDuel). The second-year player moved into the starting lineup on Saturday with Doug McDermott out and Vassell posted 19 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
McDermott is out again on Tuesday as are Lonnie Walker IV and leading scorer Dejounte Murray. That’s over 40 points per game that San Antonio will be missing and Vassell is one of the players that will be expected to fill that void. He logged a career-high of 41 minutes in his last game and Vassell’s averaging 19 PPG when he plays at least 30 minutes. He should see at least that much playing time tonight and should be a cheap source of points as the Spurs visit the Raptors.
