WAUWATOSA, Wis.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–MSP Real Estate, Inc., a leading developer and owner of high-quality properties across the upper Midwest, today announced that its River Parkway Senior Apartments has won first place for the 2021 SHN Architecture & Design Awards in the affordable housing category.
The annual Senior Housing News Architecture & Design Awards celebrate unique projects and companies using innovative design to improve the lives of seniors. Communities across the globe submitted new construction and innovation projects, vying for honors across 12 categories.
Ideally located in the heart of Wauwatosa, Wis., along the Menomonee River, the 118-unit independent living apartment complex was designed to encourage a greater sense of community and meaningful existence. The award-winning property incorporates clean lines and a modern aesthetic to complement its surrounding context with a simple palette of neutral colors, accented by cedar soffits, pergolas, brick and limestone veneer. All units feature granite counters, full-size stainless-steel appliances, generous balconies with glass railings, and shaker style cabinets and doors. The apartments are designed to help residents achieve healthy living goals, enhanced quality of life, and promote social interaction at an affordable price.
“We are thrilled that our River Parkway Senior Apartments—which is already making a meaningful impact in the local community—has now won a national architecture and design award,” said Mark Hammond, MSP Real Estate Vice President of Development. “With so much need for community based, affordable senior housing in the Wauwatosa area, we are excited to see our vision for this property and the hard work that was put into creating an unmatched offering for seniors in the community be recognized.”
Enticing amenities for the building include a large community room with kitchen, a meeting room, fitness center, and outdoor terrace. Upon arrival, the building’s east entrance includes a porte-cochere, ornamental stair and elevator leading to the lounge, featuring a seating area and fireplace. Additionally, the building includes a 100-kilowatt photovoltaic solar system, which is equivalent to reducing CO2 by 84,600 pounds per year – or a savings of approximately 43,000 gallons of gas annually.
In addition to the senior building, 18 family townhouses and a playground were included at the site to create an active, affordable, mixed-age housing community. A 50 unit second-phase family apartment building is scheduled to begin construction in 2022.
While all affordable units have been leased, there are a few remaining market rate two-bedroom, two-bath senior apartment homes available. For more information on leasing, call (414) 488-7000.
