The U.S. Postal Service successfully evaded claims that its use of facial recognition software without a privacy impact assessment violated a federal law that regulates the government’s use of technology.
The Electronic Privacy Information Center sued in 2021, after it made a Freedom of Information Act request for an impact assessment regarding the Internet Covert Operations Program, USPS’s surveillance program. The agency couldn’t find an assessment to share with EPIC, the federal trial court in D.C. said.
